Backtesting Is Overrated
When you have a new strategy, backtesting it will give you an idea of how it would have faired against the past price movements and past market conditions.
Nasasanay ka din sa pagchachart with backtesting.
When you start to treat backtesting as some core trading principle or some kind of a key to trading then market will give you a rude awakening.
When you backtest a strategy, you are using historical data which means mga price movements at volume sa past. The past data does not really reflect real-time market conditions. Hindi naisasama ang mga bid-ask na spreads, yung liquidity ng market at those times compared sa volume lang na naexecute at fees.
Ang nangyayare pa kadalasan ang nakakabuo ka ng malupet na strategy para sa past market sa kakabacktest mo.
Try mo ang Darvas na ibacktest mula 2014 to 2018 at mapapaWOW ka sa kanya.
Isang problema pa ng pagrely sa backtesting ay yung idea na bawat entry mo ay mahihit ang order mo. This is the funniest na part.

Walang ganun sa real trading na. Hindi porket ang proper entry ng strategy mo ay nasa 1 peso ay mabibigyan ka ng shares sa 1 peso.
Hindi ganyan ang trading. Nakadepende yan sa available na shares sa 1 peso.
When you backtest, ikaw ang may control ng trading scenario. Walang mental and emotional pressure kasi backtest lang eh. Controlled ang environment na pinagtetestingan mo. Hindi ganyan sa live na trading. Malaking factor ang emotions at iba pang psychological factors sa mga decision-making mo sa isang trade.
Karamihan sa mga ginagawang key ang backtesting ay hindi alam or naiintindihan kung ano ang result na nakikita nila. Fine tuning a strategy to match past conditions won’t guarantee good future results because the market conditions can change for dozens of reasons.
Trading is not a battle of strategy. Strategy is just a small part of your trading success.
Some treat strategy as the holygrail of trading kaya hindi umuusad ang tarding career nila.
Paikot-ikot lang ang performance nila at walang significant na progress.
